The Rise of Red Trailer Previews Time-Traveling Sequel

The official Descendants: The Rise of Red trailer for the newest installment to Disney’s long-running musical fantasy franchise has been released.

The video highlights a time-traveling adventure involving Cinderella’s daughter, Chloe, and the Queen of Hearts’ rebellious daughter, Red, as they go back to the past to change their mothers’ fates. The sequel is scheduled to start streaming on July 12 on Disney+. It will then be followed by a special encore on Friday, Aug. 9, at 8 p.m. EDT/PDT on Disney Channel.

“The film follows Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, Cinderella’s perfectionist daughter. When the tyrannical Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, polar opposites Red and Chloe must join forces and travel back in time to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path,” reads the synopsis.

Who’s the cast of Descendants: The Rise of Red?

Descendants: The Rise of Red is directed and executive produced by Jennifer Phang from a script written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer. The ensemble cast includes Kylie Cantrall as Red, Malia Baker as Chloe, Brandy as Cinderella, Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts, Dara Reneé as Uliana, Ruby Rose Turner as Bridget/Young Queen of Hearts, Morgan Dudley as Ella/Young Cinderella, Joshua Colley as Young Hook, Peder Lindell as Morgie, Grace Narducci as Fay/Young Fairy Godmother, Jeremy Swift as Principal Merlin, Paolo Montalban as King Charming, Leonardo Nam as Maddox Hatter. The spin-off will also feature the return of China Anne McClain as her character Uma becomes the principal of Auradon Prep.

The latest installment will feature seven original songs along with new renditions of “What’s My Name” from Descendants 2 and “So This is Love from the animated Cinderella movie. Torin Borrowdale is composing the score, while Ashley Wallen served as the film’s choreographer. It is executive produced by Suzanne Todd, Gary Marsh, and Mahita P. Simpson, with Wendy S. Williams producing.
