What’s the one quest that every Dungeons & Dragons player wants to go on? An escort mission for a group of kobolds. Wait, that’s not true? Maybe you should check out Kobold Capers: Journey to the Crimson Lair before you knock the idea.

This third party D&D adventure comes from Marina Kunz, Florence Mauli, Kai Müri, and Sven Puister and is designed for characters to go from level 5 to level 8.

Now, a quick caveat, I have not played this adventure, only checked out the preview, but if this sounds like your thing, you can grab it from DMs Guild (affiliate link) for $9.95.

Dangers abound in the rough wilderness north of Ankhapur. Besides the Thornwash river and steep mountain passes, many unique creatures have found a home here, far away from civilization.

Rumors of a strange and mighty dragon that made its lair in the deepwing mountains have been circulating. This has also come to pointy ears.

Seven little kobolds want to see for themselves if these rumors are true. They are in desperate need for a new home and a new master, after all. Since the journey is long and dangerous, they want to hire guards for protection.

What will they find along the way and what awaits them at the end of the journey? Only one way to find out.

The basic premise that I’ve gathered is that in Kobold Capers you get hired by a group of kobolds to escort them on a journey and make sure they arrive safely. Seems simple enough.

There are some things that caught my eye though. For starters, I like the profiles that the team put together for each of the Kobolds. You learn things like the fact that Draconia just wants others to see her as a dragon or Snek is obsessed with being a cartographer.

I find it adorable. The team also included a mechanic showing how happy the kobolds are with the adventuring party via the Kobold Happiness Scale.

It’s just a fun little thing that shows some of the thought put into this adventure module. I think that many D&D groups would have a lot of fun helping these kobolds out and I think they’d love it if in a later adventure the DM brought these kobolds back.

With your purchase of Kobold Capers, you’ll find a 10-20 hour adventure, 15 new creature stat blocks, a new spell, five new magical items, detailed full-color maps, custom art and handouts, and a 3D printable STL file for the final boss!

That’s so cool! If you’ll excuse me, I need to go talk to my group about when we can run this adventure.
