Australia faced India in the World Test Championship 2023 final in England. The match began on June 7 and concluded on June 11, 2023, with their triumph. After defeating India by 209 runs, they lifted this prestigious trophy for the first time in their history. A few days later, they drew against England 2-2 in the 2023 Ashes series. Since they won this tournament in 2021–22, they retained the historic Ashes urn.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the first two seasons of The Test showcased the Australian cricket team’s comeback after the 2018 ball-tampering scandal. Reports suggest that during a 2018 test match against South Africa, cameras caught Cameron Bancroft roughening one side of the cricket ball for his team’s advantage. Later, Cricket Australia found captain Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner involved in this misconduct. All three cricketers faced dire consequences, and it seemed like the team would not recover from such a heavy blow.

Unsurprisingly, they recovered quickly, and in the following years, they achieved tremendous success. In the final match of the ICC Men’s World Test Championship 2023, Australia batted first and put 469 on the board. India’s first innings ended with an underwhelming 296 runs. In the second innings, Australia made 270 for the loss of eight of eight wickets and gave their opponent a mammoth 444-run target. India could only score 234, resulting in Australia winning the match and lifting the Championship trophy. On the other hand, in the 2023 Ashes series, they drew with England and retained the Ashes urn.
