According to Variety, Emmy nominees Zazie Beetz and Elizabeth Debicki have been tapped for leading roles in the upcoming psychosexual sci-fi drama titled This Blue is Mine. In addition to leading the cast, Beetz has also signed on to serve as an executive producer.

Production is expected to take place in Colombia this August and September. Before starring in This Blue is Mine, Beetz will first reprise her role as Sophie Dumond in the upcoming DC sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. Meanwhile, Debicki will next be seen in A24’s Mia Goth-led slasher movie MaXXXine, the third installment to Ti West’s acclaimed horror franchise.

What is This Blue is Mine about?

“Set amidst a family holiday at a tropical resort, the film begins when Arthur, a guilt-free bon viveur, surprises everyone by bringing his new beautiful and enigmatic girlfriend, Ivy (Debicki). Ivy’s arrival and her odd behavior throws the already delicate dynamics off balance with Arthur and his daughters. Connie (Beetz) is still recovering from the trauma of a recent miscarriage and her older half-sister Laura can be a bit suffocating in her efforts to support her,” reads the synopsis. “One evening, after Connie gets very drunk, Ivy quietly reveals to her that she’s actually an alien visiting Earth. While Laura is quick to write Ivy off as an aspiring trophy wife, Ivy’s strangeness makes Connie, and with her the audience, question if she could actually be an alien. Before she knows it, Connie is being seduced by Ivy and invited to follow her back to her planet, an invitation that sound more seductive as the family drama heightens. But is Ivy really an alien? Or is Connie having a mental breakdown? Connie may have to take a leap of faith.”

This Blue is Mine will be directed by Brazilian filmmaker Iuli Gerbase (The Pink Cloud). The film will be produced and financed by Marissa McMahon and Ashley Schlaifer for Kamala Films. Chelsea Ellis Bloch and Marisol Roncali have been tapped to oversee the project in behalf of Atomic Honey. Meanwhile, HanWay Films is handling the film’s international sales.
