Evan Peters (Dahmer, WandaVision, X-Men) is set to star alongside Jared Leto in has joined Disney’s third film in the Tron franchise titled Tron: Ares. The movie is being directed Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Kon Tiki), and I’m really hoping that he’s going to make a great Tron movie.

There’s no word on who Peters is playing in the movie, but Leto will take on the role of Ares, which is the manifestation of the Tron program. There are two key characters in the story that include a soldier in the virtual world and a gamer in the human sphere.

Tron: Ares producer Justin Springer, previously talked about the film saying that it feels like the right time for a third movie:

“Yeah, I’m a producer on whatever the upcoming film becomes, and hopefully we’ll get to make it one day soon, but we’re still in development on it. And there’s not much that I can say about that just because we want to get everything in order and we want to make sure we have a movie that feels like it meets the ambition of the things that have come before it. So I would love to do it. And I think now the ideas that we’ve explored in Tron and where you would imagine those ideas evolving to are more relevant than they’ve ever been. So it feels like the right time. And there’s a giant ride here now, and there’s one in Shanghai, but we have to get it right. We have to get the story and we have to get the team right. And so there’s still stuff to do before we have much to say about the movie.”

The script for the movie was written by Jesse Wigutow, and Disney is looking to start production in August of this year in Vancouver if the actors don’t go on strike.

I’m a big fan of this franchise, and I would love nothing more than to get another great Tron film. Do you think they will be able to pull it off?
