Best movies on Netflix that are out now

The following Netflix movies are out now; you can watch them with your subscription.

Kill Boksoon

The Byun Sung-hun-directed movie is one of the most pleasant surprises of 2023 to date. Led by appreciated South Korean actress Jeon Do-yeon, Kill Boksoon is an action-packed thriller that follows a woman struggling to balance her life as a mother and a killer for hire. Sung-hun pays homage to Quentin Tarantino but goes beyond the mere mimicking of the Hollywood director’s style, offering a fresh take on the action genre. If you’re a fan of movies like Kill Bill, John Wick, and so on, then Kill Boksoon is a must-watch.

Murder Mystery 2

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston team up again as Nick and Audrey Spitz to solve another mysterious case. This time, the unconventional detectives work on the streets of Monte Carlo and Paris, France, to save their good friend Vikram “The Maharajah” Govindan. The sequel builds on the legacy of 2019’s Murder Mystery, relying on the same level of comedy. Sandler and Aniston are a good team, and Murder Mystery 2 is worth a watch from whoever is looking for a good laugh.

Luther: The Fallen Sun

John Luther is one of the most iconic roles Idris Elba has dealt with in his career, and Luther: The Fallen Sun feels like the natural continuation of the legacy the British actor built since 2010. New challenges await the titular detective in Luther: The Fallen Sun, the long-feature addition to the franchise created by Neil Cross. In fact, Luther deals with one of his biggest missions ever in the Jamie Payne-directed film. The cast includes Cynthia Erivo, Dermot Crowley, and Andy Serkis.

The Magician’s Elephant

Netflix’s animation rarely disappoints, and The Magician’s Elephant lives up to high-standard expectations. Based on the book by two-time Newbery Award-winning author Kate DiCamillo, the story follows young Peter’s efforts to find his sister. Along the journey, Peter befriends an elephant that will help and guide him along the way.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

Less than a year after Disney’s Pinocchio once again lowered the bar for its tepid live-action remakes, Guillermo del Toro provided what could be the definitive retelling of the children’s classic. The Oscar-winning director is well-known for his visual style, and it’s never been more impressive here — the love poured into this stop-motion has to be seen to be believed.

JUNG_E

Explosive action from the mind of Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho, this South Korean sci-fi film is a little all over the place but packs a hell of a punch. Borrowing from the likes of Blade Runner and The Terminator, JUNG_E introduces us to an uninhabitable world and humanity splintered into shelters throughout space. With memorable action sequences and a lot of heart, this is one to watch.

The Strays

The Strays wears its similarities to Jordan Peele’s Get Out on its sleeve, and we’re cool with that. Everything from the trailer to the premise — a Black woman leaves her working-class background for a white suburb, but everything is not as it seems — owes a lot to Peele’s modern horror classic. While it doesn’t quite reach the highs of its inspiration, this is still a gripping psychological thriller.
